Mark Carter has been promoted to MPD’s Commander of Special operations and Homeland Security, after only three months in charge of District 2D, which includes Georgetown. Carter was put in charge of 2D back in April, when he replaced hard-nosed Andrew Solberg, who spent his two years as district Commander cracking down on open container violations and vigilantly enforcing noise ordinances.

Carter’s rumored replacement is former Mobile Crime Lab Commander Christopher LoJacono, who (if you believe the Examiner) suffered a fall from grace due to his bumbling attempts at building a functional DNA lab. Further adding to his riches-to-rags aura, he was involved in the Chandra Levy investigation. It may seem like 2D is being saddled with a second-rate Commander, but he’s got a couple points in his favor: his nickname is “Lojo,” his past failures have probably put a fire in his belly, and he looks like this:

I enjoyed some more Kenner Summer League action today, this time taking in the Tombs, the other Hoya team. A 3:30 match against Hoop Magic seemed to offer the best chance to compare Georgetown’s incoming talent, as I spent last week watching Hoop Magic play Clyde’s. That opportunity was dashed, however, when Hoop Magic’s star player, Donte Greene of the Memphis Grizzlies, did not play.

It’s hard to pass any real judgment based on one summer league game, but The Tombs’ Hoyas put on a lukewarm performance this afternoon, falling to an undermanned, Greene-less Hoop Magic squad, 55-54.

The Tombs team is led by sophomore guard Chris Wright. Wright showed flashes of brilliance, especially in transition. At times, his speed and vision were clearly the best on the court. In the second half, though, Wright seemed to disappear for stretches and was too sloppy with the ball for someone who may well be Georgetown’s chief point guard next year.

How did Greg “The Doctrine” Monroe do? Find out, after the jump.

The PG Storm has been downgraded to a tropical depression, so an entire new schedule has been made. If you’re planning on going to any of the games today at McDonough, check out the updated schedule here. Two Georgetown teams are playing today. Hint: If you want get a first look at Greg Monroe, he’s playing at 3:30.

Check back soon for more Summer League coverage. Last week, the PG Storm was conspicuously absent, and Austin Freeman beat Donte Green.
