HOLY SHIT!! I MUST OF MISSED SEEING THESE WHILE AT TEXAS!!!
I don’t imagine UTPD walked around with them all the time.
I would hate that my kids were at a campus that police have NO guns!! Police need guns to protect all the criminals that come into the campus.
I love reading crap like this. WILL go to any POLICE DEPT. CAMPUS ALL AROUND AND SEE WHAT GUNS YOU CAN FIND.
Which schools do you think roll with shotties and semi-autos?
You must be really in need for articles for the paper. Who cares what schools have shotties and semi-autos? Go to a any POLICE DEPARTMENT. University of Texas is right downtown of Austin . Look what happened years ago . And you know what………. Every University is different.. there is different crime every where. Do yourself a favor…. Focus on the postive side and not so on the negative side of your articles.
Do you have a real life? If your a student.. Get a part-time job at a POLICE DEPT .You may change your mind about shotties and semi autos!!
What? Allow the police to have guns, what sort of behavior is that? We shouldn’t allow police to carry guns.
Sarcasm aside, the UTPD is a real police department, authorized by the State of Texas for all law enforcement. They aren’t crossing guards.
Find some real issues to harass Mr. Van Slyke and DPS about.

It’s just a shotgun, and a .223–these are common tools for any real police department. More importantly, tools for a school that has seen one of the bloodiest shootings in U.S. history.
What disturbs me most about the complaints is that if there were to be a student shooting everyone would whine and bemoan the lack of preparation on the part of DPS.
Will Sommer, if you have a problem with DPS why don’t you get off of your smarmy liberal ass and join the department to show them what they’re doing wrong. Or just crawl back into your introspective black hole life where you can condescend to people trying to make your life safer.
[...] to sources within the Department of Public Safety, Director Jeffrey Van Slyke, he of the assault rifles and alleged police brutality and racial profiling, has lost his job. According to sources who [...]
