Just kidding, Nate Willems isn’t actually 12–he just looks it. This cool cat from the SFS class of 2001 is running as a Democrat for a seat in Iowa’s House of Representatives, and his platform–better schools and healthcare–should win voters’ hearts, especially in such a good Democratic year.

Should, that is, if his opponent stops boxing his ears.  Willems’s opponent, Republican  Emma Nemecek, throws out red meat like she’s on a shark boat and Nate’s in the cage:

I will unwaveringly support legislation that follows my core conservative beliefs: I am pro-life, pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, opposed to gun control, opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants, opposed to government seizure of property, and opposed to forced unionization. I will take a hard line on punishment for sex offenders, strongly support renewable energy, and tirelessly advocate for senior citizens.

The best part of her website is when she implies that someone–not naming names, but his or her campaign picture looks like a high school senior photo–is just running to improve his or her career:

I believe it is more important to “do something” than to “be somebody” and the actions I take as your legislator will be for the benefit of the citizens in my district, not to make a name for myself.

Between that and not knowing about “potty parity”, could this be the end for Nate?

  1. “Emma was born into poverty in Basilan City, Philippines, an area fraught with political and religious conflicts. The local population was largely Muslim and sympathetic to the terrorist group now known as the Abu Sayyaf.” MUSLIM TERRORIST MUSLIM TERRORIST MUSLIM TERRORIST MUSLIM TERRORIST!

Nate Willems is a good guy and is most happy to buy a pork tenderloin sandwich for any Georgetown student who happens upon Linn County, Iowa. I have to say, though, it will be tough to replace cool guy Ro Foege.

  2. Ro Foege is a great name.

Read a little further in Nemecek’s bio, Jack, and you’ll see that those Abu Sayyafians actually punished her for her Christian faith. She’s basically the reverse Muslim terrorist, and thus deserving of your vote.

  3. “I will unwaveringly support legislation that follows my core conservative beliefs: ” (Basically, he is saying he will cater to special interest like any other republican. core conservative values these days means your open to the highest bidder)

I am pro-life, (he is saying women don’t have a right to choose.)

pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, (he is anti homosexual)

opposed to gun control, (lobbyist for the NRA court him on a regular basis)

opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants, (we all heard all the repubs talk about this one and do nothing about it)

opposed to government seizure of property, (good one, havent heard about that in a long time)

and opposed to forced unionization. (most repubs are againest anything anti big business period)

I will take a hard line on punishment for sex offenders, (hear about this every election, from every politician)

strongly support renewable energy, (so you mean the corn industry has lined your pockets as well )

and tirelessly advocate for senior citizens. (advocate what? better tasting ensure?)

  4. Keep in mind, Mark, that’s Nemecek’s platform, not Nate’s. And actually, the seizure of property thing has been big with Republicans ever since that Supreme Court case where homes were taken through eminent domain to make room for a hotel.
