Solidarity raises $13,000 for Leo’s worker, $5,000 from anonymous donor
Posted by: Will Sommer in News, Vox Populi, tags: Leo's, Leslie Tang, SolidarityThe Solidarity Committee’s campaign to help Leo’s employee Leslie Tang, whose home was destroyed in a fire, turned out really, really well:
We have really pulled it together and accompanied Leslie as a community through this difficult phase in her life in a moving expression of the Jesuit value of human solidarity. I would like to offer thanks to all of you who contributed to this effort, and especially to an anonymous donor of $5000. In total, we have raised almost $13,000 at this point. I am good friends with Leslie, and thus been lucky enough to watch her pull through this with an incredibly strong spirit, bolstered by the expressions of an equally strong community.
Good on Solidarity for really coming through on this. Now that it’s over, they should treat themselves to something frivolous. Maybe that giant Donald Rumsfeld puppet they’ve been putting away for.
Guesses as to the anonymous donor’s identity? Put ‘em in the comments.

Me.
I don’t mean to crush the spirit of this gracious deed, but what sort of precedent does this set from here on out? I know there are many other people of the Georgetown University community who could use a little financial help.
STEVE HOLT!
And….Pabs finds the elephant in the room.
The reason that Solidarity took this on was because many members had a friendship with Leslie and the situation came to their attention. Simple as that. It wasn’t about handing out charity.
I think the REAL question is looking towards precedent is; what has the University or Aramark done to help? and why does someone who work’s at Leo’s need to have three other jobs to survive?
The students have done more than their part to help a community member in need and the University and Aramark should do the same.
