Concert Calendar: Inauguration weekend and beyond

See him on Sunday with half a million friends

Sunday

Maroon 5 and John Legend

Declare Yourself, a non-profit dedicated to increasing youth voter turnout has organized a concert at the Renaissance Hotel. Featuring Maroon 5, John Legend, and other celebrity guests, the event should be well attended. But with tickets going for $250, the concert will be overshadowed by U2, the Boss, and Stevie Wonder at the Lincoln Memorial.

We Are One

The anticipation surrounding We Are One only increased as word leaked out about the amazing array of performers. Expect to see Beyonce, U2, Herbie Hancock, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Shakira, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, and many others. The event will also feature historical readings between performances. The best part is the whole thing is free, but that also means you’ll be out with 500,000 other people. Things should get started at 2:00. If you don’t want to brave the cold and crowds, catch We Are One on HBO starting at 7:00.

Monday

Big Shoulders Ball

Andrew Bird, whose new album is released on the 20th, will be headlining the Big Shoulders Ball at the Black Cat. Tortoise, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The Waco Brothers, and others will be supporting. Tickets are $50, and the show begins at 7:00.

Wednesday

Vic Chesnutt

See folk rocker Vic Chesnutt at the Black Cat on Wednesday at 9:00. Chesnutt may be well past his prime, but his heartfelt vocals and were enough to catch the attention of REM back in the early 1990’s. Frontman Michael Stipe went on the produce Chesnutt’s first two albums in 1990 and 1991. Elf Power is opening, and tickets are only $12.
