With regard to the post above stating that one of our photographers instructed students in a classroom to all move to one area of the room:

I am a assistant photo editor for the GW Hatchet and I was actually present in the classroom when this took place. My photographer did not instruct students to do anything. It was actually my overzealous professor trying to be helpful who instructed students to do this so that the photographer could "get good pictures". Obviously this is a violation of journalism ethics and that is why we did not publish any of his photos in either our print or online editions.

Right, I wish they'd held the article until they could get numbers, because that would be pretty interesting.

Without a survey of all profs, how would one include specific numbers?

Now the Hoya has <a href="http://www.thehoya.com/node/17823" rel="nofollow">a similar story</a>, but again, no numbers to back it up. And are the ledes too similar for your tastes? From The Hoya:

"Surfing the Web may soon disappear entirely from Georgetown classrooms, as a growing number of professors enact policies either banning or discouraging laptop use during lectures and discussion sections."

From The Hatchet:

"Facebook, video-chatting and instant messaging may soon be a thing of the past - at least in some GW classrooms.
"A growing number of professors are banning or restricting the use of laptop computers in their classrooms in an attempt to get students to pay attention and engage in classroom discussions."

Well that's no good---thanks for the vigilance. Did they run any photographs with the article in their print version?

But hey, at least they didn't clear out all laptop users and try to pass it off as a dry classroom.

A Hatchet photographer came to one of my classes before the article was written to get pictures for it--he asked all the kids with laptops to cluster in the middle of the room so he could getter a better shot i.e. one with 9/10 students using laptops. In reality the balance was 1/10. Must have been a slow news week for them...

I wondered that too! It doesn't get a mention in an article, so maybe they meant it for the sake of the lede, ie, "things you can't do without a computer." GW kids, are you really that bold?
