E-mail Transportation Management about the proposed changes to the Dupont GUTS route!
Posted by: Molly Redden in News, Vox Populi, tags: Georgetown, Georgetown Neighborhood, GUTS Buses, Town-Gown RelationsToday, Voice News reported that the University is testing a new Dupont GUTS bus route that if implemented will more than double the mileage of the current route and absurdly draw out its trip time. We’ve graphed that new route above.
Take a look: does that make sense to you? It sure doesn’t to us. We think it’s absurd that the University would even consider a route that so baldly inconveniences students and University employees. What’s more, there’s strong reason to believe that the proposed route sacrifices student interests to the desires of the town-gown: its is nearly identical to the route for which neighborhood residents have been lobbying for some time.
If you think this route ridiculous as we do, email Diann Nock Smith, the Director of the University’s Office of Transportation Management at otm@georgetown.edu. Below is our boilerplate letter of protest, but you can add all the flair you want!
Hello,
My name is YOUR NAME and I’m writing to express my displeasure over the Dupont GUTS bus route that the University began testing last weekend. The route is counter-intuitive and wastes gas, and I find it very troubling that Georgetown would consider implementing a change that so clearly inconveniences students and University employees who work in Dupont or travel from Dupont to their homes or other parts of the District. The idea that the University is putting the interests of neighborhood residents before its own student body is equally disconcerting.
I strongly discourage your office from adopting these changes!
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

It’s spelled Dupont, not DuPont. Unless you’re trying to out-fancy the neighbors. In which case, you ought to go all the way and call it Le Circle Du Pont et la Place de la Comfort One Shoes.
Nice job. Maybe you guys can set up that automatic form emailer like you had up earlier? Also, where’s GUSA on this one?
Good points, Matt! Our techies should try to get on the automatic email form, though I don’t know the technicalities of that sort of thing. As for GUTS, it’s certainly something our new Pres/VP should be championing. Maybe that’ll be the next campaign …
I considered inserting the email form (not hard), since you can program it to deliver to any account without the account administrator’s approval, but I thought that would be nasty/invasive.
Plus, what’s a little extra legwork for a good cause?
I found the template email very convenient. Thank you!
[...] Last week, Voice News reported that the Unversity was testing a new GUTS bus route for the Dupont line that will potentially replace the Q Street route. The new route would more than double the trip length from Dupont to the University and, as the Voice reported, is under consideration totally at the behest of neighborhood residents. (Vox was outraged and gave you a form letter to email to the Office of Transportation Management.) [...]
