Vee Sanford commits to Georgetown

On Sunday afternoon, the Georgetown men’s basketball team only had eight players on its predicted 2009-10 roster. Eight players, for those casual basketball fans out there, aren’t even enough to run a five-on-five scrimmage during practice.
The Hoyas added a ninth player to their roster on Monday, when Kentucky All-State shooting guard Vee Sanford of Lexington Catholic, a 6-3 three point shooting expert, announced his intention to play at Georgetown next season.
According to the Lousiville Courier Journal, Sanford’s coach, Brandon Salsman, said, “”I think it’s great for him. He will fit in like one of the round pegs on their puzzle. They have a role for him and he’ll do what they want.”
Sanford averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.4 assists a game this past season.
ESPN Insider’s basketball recruiting gurus evaluated Sanford in March and rated him an 86 out of 100, and the 70th-ranked shooting guard in this year’s senior class. While the ranking isn’t extremely high, they added:
Sanford is a skilled, long athlete that has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He is a good ball handler and underrated passer but his strength lies in his three point range of the catch or dribble and his floater in the lane that he executes with excellent touch and body control. Sanford must add strength and he didn’t shoot well this weekend but he has the potential to be an excellent college player.
“An excellent college player” is all Hoya fans need to hear.
