Last year’s Live! On Woodrow Wilson Plaza finale, featuring Chuck Brow

Free Movies

In an economy like this, who wants to drop $10 on a movie that you’re unsure of in the first place? Lucky for you, you can head over to Rosslyn, VA  instead to witness some killer movies that everyone already knows and loves. The film screening, entitled “I <3 the 80’s” brings back some great films every Friday at dusk, running until December September. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring blankets and their own popcorn to fulfill the basic needs of warmth and nourishment. Head over to their website for a full schedule of movies.

But, if music-based films are more your niche, New York Avenue’s NOMA Summer Screenings should fit your bill. Every Wednesday in June and July, you’ll be able to see a free documentary/documentary-esque film about music and music makers. You can either dig Dig!, the story of the Brian Jonestown Massacre as told by the Dandy Warhols, Ray, Buena Vista Social Club, or some other cool jams. Check out the full listing of screenings.

Race for the Cure

Apparently, helping society doesn’t have to include you dropping large wads of cash. Someone should tell Bono. But in the meantime, you can do your part by signing up for this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Taking place this Saturday, June 6th, the race is attempting to meet their goal of raising $6.1 million dollars, 75% of which will stay in the DC area, and will also help benefit populations in distressed situations. So, go out of your way and register, either as a participant or a volunteer.  You’ll get to enjoy yourself with hundreds of others while helping benefit a good cause.

Live! On Woodrow Wilson Plaza

Beginning today With Chaka Khan (known for such hits as “Tell Me Something Good,” and “I’m Every Woman”), the Woodrow Wilson concert series will start off swinging. From ‘salsa to strings, and blues to swing,’ this live concert series will continue, Monday through Friday, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (weather permitting) until September 25. This week alone, artists like David Back, Flamenco Aparicio, DC Soul, and The Grandsons will play at this hot spot. Head over to The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to see what all the fuss is about, or check out the full schedule of performances.

It’s Story Time!

D.C. Traveler’s Circle meets monthly as a free story sharing group with a unique, shared love of travel. The casual atmosphere leaves no real time restrictions on you, some visit whenever possible between the hours of 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm tonight, at Mayur Kabab (located at 11th & K st, NW).

X

Friday, June 5th, in Silver Spring, Maryland, will be the opening of the art exhibit ‘X’. Mysterious, huh? Located at Space 88 (8211 Mayor Lane; just off of Georgia Avenue) there will be countless artists doing something that is apparently only describable through this equation: LIVE ( Electronica + Projections + Art + Fashion + Performance ) + YOU = X. Sounds even more mysterious now… Find out more about the night’s activities here.

  1. I have to believe that the Rosslyn movies run until September, not December…

  2. You’re right. Just fixed it!
