Georgetown—Syracuse rivalry

Last week, ESPN columnist Pat Forde wrote a round-up of the top college basketball rivalries for the 2009-10 season. So how did the legendary Georgetown—Syracuse rivalry fare?

We certainly didn’t get top honors—those went to Kentucky—Louisville, followed by Michigan State—Purdue and Kentucky—Tennessee. Not only did we not make the top 10, we didn’t even get one of the eight honorable mentions! Oddly enough, the only Big East “rivalry” that made the top five was Pitt—Villanova.

Mike Walters from the Syracuse Post-Standard noticed the flagrant Georgetown—Syracuse omission and took umbrage:

Hey, it’s OK if Pat doesn’t know that Syracuse-Georgetown isn’t one of the top five rivalries in college basketball. I know of 31,841 people who do. Those would be the fans that jammed the Carrier Dome last winter; the largest on-campus crowd in the NCAA last season.

Finally something both Georgetown and Syracuse fans can agree on!
