Ben Bixby Has A Dream

Environmentally friendly start up, Earth Aid, is giving us yet another reason to go green this year. Founded by alum Ben Bixby (SFS ‘05), Earth Aid strives to bring local businesses, students, and families together in the fight against Global Warming.

How does the company plan to achieve such a lofty goal you ask? It’s simple: incentives. From discounts on pizza to free yoga mats, Earth Aid will essentially give us freebies for being environmentalists.

According to Mr. Bixby, local businesses, families and off-campus students can sign up for his service, and by cutting back on utilities they’ll earn “Earth Aid Rewards,” which can be redeemed at local restaurants and stores.

It’s a win-win situation for communities that embrace this new service: “In addition to encouraging and effectively sponsoring sustainability in the neighborhood,” Mr. Bixby points out, “businesses benefit by attracting new, green-inclined customers.”

Earth Aid is also one of the first companies to develop the sorts of technologies required to gather data from household utilities and, “mash that information together in a single location.”

Fortunately enough, D.C. is the trial run for the folks over at Earth Aid. Bixby saw the changing administration as the perfect opportunity to start the sort of grass-roots green movement that his company has championed, and rightly so.

His vision, however, is not limited to D.C., he hopes that we will see, “Earth Aid Rewards Networks sweeping the nation in the weeks and months ahead, providing new incentives for folks everywhere to take charge of their energy use and make improvements that benefit all of us.”

So put on your hemp bracelets, turn off those lights as you leave the room, and don’t let the water run as you brush your teeth, ‘cause Earth Aid is comin’ to town.
