Windows smashed on 36th Street

Wisey's door broken

Several windows of businesses on 36th Street, including Wisemiller’s Grill’s, were smashed at 1:55 a.m. this morning, according to Department of Public Safety Officer Hariri.

As you can see in the photo, the window on the door to Wisey’s was shattered.  According to Hariri, the windows of three other businesses on the same block were also broken.

Vox will let you know when we find out more about the situation.

Update 11:45 a.m. Associate Director of DPS Joseph Smith writes in an email that the broken glass door at Wisey’s is related to a theft that occurred there early this morning:

[On] Thursday morning, at 1:54 a.m., it was discovered that unknown person or persons entered Wisemiller’s and absconded with a cash register. The apparent method of entry was by breaking the front door glass. It is an ongoing MPD investigation. There are not witnesses or suspects at this time.

  1. There is no DPS Officer Hariri. There is an employee Damon Harari at DPS, who is not listed as an officer. Do you fact-check at all before you throw things up here? Have you ever heard of using sources’ first names? Do you really need a source to tell you 4 windows were broken? Can’t you see that with your own eyes?
Also, I thought DPS officers weren’t authorized to speak to the press?

  2. 1. No, the Voice does not fact-check. I am certain of it.

    2. When is Georgetown going to join the 21st century and get a mother!$@#ing security camera setup?! (Georgetown owns the Wisey’s property. Wisey’s is just the tenant. So as far as I’m concerned, the landlord should be involved in security, especially when the landlord is a 6,000+ person campus that has a rampant crime problem and has done nothing to stop it.)

  3. The Voice’s budget allotment for a fact-checker never makes it through media board’s cuts.

  5. Rampant? Really?

This isn’t Compton, chill the f out.

  6. There was an arrest of a g’town student around 2:15 AM around the corner outside of Saxby’s. Evidently vandalized a car. I wonder if it was related?

  7. I didn’t say it was Compton. But why not get some security cameras? Oh, and the sexual assaults are (or at least were) pretty rampant. Again, not Compton, but certainly something the University can deal with more effectively.
