Concert Calendar: Switchfoot and Cloak/Dagger
Phenomenal Handclap Band
The Phenomenal Handclap Band is equal parts funk, soul, psychedelic, and powerhouse rhythm section. That and their name should be more than enough to spark some interest in seeing these 8 soul-driven folks take the stage at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $10 advance, $12 at the door.
Switchfoot have been putting out music for like ten years now. That seems like a long time for a radio rock band to continue putting out music. But with their 2009 release, Hello Huricane, the band is trying to find their way away from the radio and back to their roots, which they set out to accomplish by finding a new label, and a new home studio so that they could make music instead of hits. That may be a good enough reason to see them play at the 9:30 Club this Sunday. Or maybe they’ll even play those songs from the A Walk To Remember. $20.
Cloak/Dagger are one of the most unique punk bands playing in the genre today. They bring together some upbeat and pulsating guitars, incredibly danceable drums, and some Henry Rollins revival on vocals. The Clash meets Black Flag. They’ve come out with a new album called Lost Art, and they’re playing the Black Cat this Friday for $10 advance, $12 at the door.
