The winners of Vox‘s haiku contest
Posted by: Molly Redden in Vox Populi, tags: Contests, Haiku, She's Out of My League
Readers sent some awesome submissions to yesterday’s Georgetown-themes haiku contest. Here are the two winners. The first is by Not Jason Clark:
“Money goes to Towne
Appetite goes to Wisey’s
No cash left for films”
And the second is by Likes Free Stuff:
“I am like Georgetown.
Good at basketball, catholic,
but am also broke.”
The poets behind these haikus win two free tickets each to a screening of She’s Out of My League at the Georgetown AMC tonight at 7:30. The Voice will get in touch with you shortly to arrange for ticket pick-up.
We really liked Julie‘s haiku…
Dear Georgetown Ladies
It is fucking cold outside
Put on some real clothes.
… but she’s written occasionally for Vox. We also considered setting up girl and @girl, both of whom questions Georgetown’s alleged hook-up culture, but after some Facebook stalking and rereading of one of their Date Lab apps, Vox thinks they wouldn’t have been the best match.
More of our favorites after the jump!
And the following were amusing, but not haikus, or not written by current Georgetown students. From Lazy One:
“this movie allows
an escape from midterms that
im not studying for”
From Alum:
“Still stuck at the bank;
It’s 10 PM in London.
Do not graduate.”
And from Chris D:
“We in S-F-S
care not for your College ways.
Madeline Albright, God.”
To which @Chris D responded:
“Learn how to count, bro.
Some help from a College guy:
Maddie Albright, God.”

The two agreed that there was no spark
Catholic has three syllables, not two. It’s not a Haiku.
Going to have to disagree with you, Can’t count. I’ve never met someone who doesn’t pronounce it “Cath-lic.”
I guess I’m just not constrained by your strict Haiku structures. I’m really more from the Kobayashi Issa school of Haiku. You’d know who that was if you were a CULP major.
Brah, Kobayashi Issa was totally the correct haiku master to appear in The Catcher in the Rye. Like Holden Caufield, he was all about, like, breaking conventions broseph!!
Also, whoever put the extra apostrophe in the word “winners” in the title should be shot.
@Hunter Gracchus/ Re: “winner’s”
Seconded. When I find them…
