Submit your questions for the GUSA candidates
Posted by: Geoffrey Bible in News, Vox Populi, tags: 2011 GUSA Presidential Election
This Thursday at 7 p.m. the four candidates for the Georgetown University Student Association presidency will participate in a debate.
Election Commission member Ryan Gavigan (COL ’11) will moderate the debate between Charlie Joyce (COL ’12), Mike Meaney (SFS ’12), Ace Factor (COL ’12), and Jed Feiman (COL ’12). Yours truly, along with a reporter from The Hoya, will join Gavigan at the moderator’s table.
Going by our namesake, we here at Vox Populi welcome your question suggestions—serious or humorous—in the comment section below.
As long as everything works out, we will also have a liveblog and will be live tweeting the debate.

Please ask anything about Ace Factor’s name…it is absolutely incredible. It sounds like he fights crime in his spare time.
- What concrete accomplishments have your ticket been a part of in GUSA? If either or both of you haven’t been in GUSA before, what personal accomplishments can you point to that have helped the student body?
- GUSA candidates have a history of filling up their platform with lofty ideas that they know will never get done. With relatively weak powers, how does your ticket plan on getting results while keeping in mind the feasibility of your platform?
- Do you think it’s important to have structural experience within GUSA? Does one need to know the ins and outs of GUSA in order to make things happen?
- What was your opinion of SAFE Reform last semester?
- Do you have any ideas for the new endowment commission?
- One of the greatest responsibilities of GUSA is to allocate the student activities fee. What experience does your ticket have managing a budget?
How will you protect my right to lax hard and lax often?
Since the Vice-Presidential candidates don’t get their own debate, please tell us why you chose your running mate.
to charlie joyce: is it difficult to look THAT good all the time?
When you vote for someone other than Henry, can you still call yourself a hoya that bleeds hoya blue? A vote against Henry is like voting for Duke.
When this election inevitably results in fraud and scandal, how will you react?
After being elected, do you intend to ignore the student body immediately or will you maintain the charade for a few days?
Aside from resume building and justifying your pathetic existence, why are you running for GUSA President?
What issues are you pretending to care most about?
Do you consider making unfunny, poorly produced youtube videos or literally littering our campus with poorly xeroxed flyers a more integral part of the election process?
What innocuously named colossal waste of university funds is most dear to your heart? How will you manage to ensure that it is not even a partial success?
How many innocent and unknowing freshmen did you harass in a vain attempt to pretend like people on this campus know who you are?
Who is Nate Lubick? And why is he the MOST interesting man at Georgetown? Seriously? Who is he? Has anyone heard of him?
Who is Nate Lubick and why is he the most interesting man at Georgetown? Seriously who is he? Why pick him?
Access to Benefits + presumed consent all day, every day.
A question about how the GUSA executive can be more transparent and visible would be cool as well.
to charlie joyce: is it difficult to look THAT douchey and retarded all the time?

To the Feiman/Sims ticket:
1. Does JT III know that Sims is running for VP? What are his thoughts? Is Sims confident that he can perform his responsibilities as Vice-President and be a member of the basketball team, or is this just an vote ploy?
2. What is your position on Access to Benefits/SAC reform?
3. Have you spoken to UIS about the feasibility of your wireless router plans? From what I understand, this has been proposed and shot down year after year, because of UIS’ security and bandwidth/infrastructure concerns. Are they open to this, or is this DOA?
To Factor/Pickens
1. Really? Only $10,000 for the GUSA Fund? We just got an extra $750k to spend. Not going to make the GUSA Fund be a strong rival to SAC?
2. What if SAC refuses to elect themselves democratically? Considering GUSA has no direct control over SAC, how will you respond?
To Meany/Lavierre
1. How much money are you allocating to the GUSA Ambassador fund, and why do you think this will benefit the Georgetown (as opposed to the students themselves)?
To Joyce/Lovejoy
1. What exactly do you plan to do to increase student space?
^ awesome questions ^
Actually, reading the budgets, one more question for Meany/Lavierre:
1. You allocate $30,000 for late night GUTS bus services. Is this something GUSA should be funding, as opposed to the university? And if GUSA is going to foot the bill on the University’s behalf, should we have more say in how and where GUTS buses are run, instead of the neighbors?
