Meaney-Laverriere budget proposes late night GUTS buses
Posted by: Geoffrey Bible in News, Vox Populi
In Mike Meaney (SFS ’12) and Greg Laverriere‘s (COL ’12) proposed Georgetown University Student Association budget, the candidates have asked for $2,000 for the creation of a housing finder website, as well as a student satisfaction website.
The budget proposal also requests $30,000 (outside of the requested GUSA budget) for late night Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle buses.
Meaney and Laverriere’s full budget proposal can be found after the jump.

What the heck is a $4,000 \best practices research trip?
LOL!
Findmyhousing.com was started by two 2010 Georgetown grads not too long ago. In the recent Voice article about housing, they wrote that: “According to Swiek, Find My Housing is working with the Georgetown University Student Associaton and Georgetown officials with the goal of bringing the site to Georgetown “in an official capacity.” — Is this website what the budget refers to when it dedicates part of $2,000 to a “Hoya housing finder”, or is the budget merely redundant? Could be a good question for the candidate debate.
From their website:
“We will work to create a research-funding grant for the comparative assessment of student governance, student space, and student activities funding at Georgetown University and peer institutions so as to determine how to make student services at Georgetown on par with our peers.”
Why do Meaney/Laverierre have significantly larger figures for the “GD Balance” and “Reserves” than the other candidates’ budgets? Do they know something that the others don’t? Or, are they just better informed?
@discrepancies: yeah, that seemed odd to me too.
Also, how would a housing website look different from the one we already have, maintained by OCH? http://och.georgetown.edu/ Granted, some of their features, like the listing of off-campus spaces aren’t too great, but I would want to hear why we would need to make a brand new website, rather than improve what we already have.
Also, why do they budget for $16K on collegiate readership program? Are they planning on taking on the full costs of the program from InterHall/The Dean’s office? Why?
@Doug
I believe they both pulled out of the program, hence the reason why GUSA has not been able to fully fund the program. But, hopefully this will fix that!
@Doug – I agree re: website. As with Joyce/Lovejoy’s GU WikiHow idea, I don’t think that creating a whole new website to essentially collate what is already out there is the best choice. True, pushing those running the current websites is unlikely to provide results. But these website ideas sound 100% like gimmicks.
Also, $6k for the farmer’s market? Hells no.
As a recent alum, I have to say this ticket has fallen flat. I’ve seen every single one of their ideas proposed before over the years and not a single one has come close to fruition.
For years, I have heard GUSA leaders talk about how they wanted to reform the funding process. Every year, they have fallen flat. Oh wait, Funding Board Reform and SAFE Reform have passed. Keep on pushing!
Just to add to what “typical” said, let’s not forget who was the architect of both of these great reforms: Greg Laverierre
What the best way to ensure that these reforms are implemented correctly and successfully? Let the guy who knows more than anyone else about the funding process control the process.
Talk about an experienced, qualified candidate….
Keep it up guys. I came across this, http://www.beltwaysports.com/blog/?p=1299 pretty funny stuff
