Concert Calendar: Les Savy Fav and The River Breaks
Posted by: Leigh Finnegan in Leisure, Vox PopuliThis week’s concert calendar brings some good news and some bad news. First, the good: D.C. has a lot of pretty big-name performers coming this week—the 9:30 Club is hosting Sleigh Bells on Saturday, My Chemical Romance (if you want to live out your middle-school Gerard Way crush, it’s okay, we all had one) on Tuesday, and Adele on Thursday, plus Tame Impala is going to be at the Black Cat tomorrow night and James Blake is at Rock & Roll Hotel on Sunday. The bad news? They’re all sold out. But here are some tickets you can still get your hands on for some finals week de-stressing.
The River Breaks w/ The Silver Liners and Presto Bando
Friday, May 6, Rock & Roll Hotel ($10), doors at 8:00 p.m.
The River Breaks are a local D.C. band with a logo that’s chock full of District pride. They self-describe their sound on their website as “americana-pop rock,” and they’re showcasing it tonight at R&R Hotel. Alongside the band are fellow local pop-rockers the Silver Liners and Presto Bando.
Les Savy Fav w/ 1, 2, 3 and Rival Skies
Saturday, May 7, Black Cat ($15), 9:00 p.m. doors
New York City band Les Savy Fav has been playing its interesting brand of art-rock-influenced indie since they released their debut album, 3/5, in 1997. They’ve gained a reputation for their raucous live shows, and most of the members have pretty cool beards. They’re touring with 1, 2, 3, an indie band from Pittsburgh signed to their Frenchkiss Records label, and post-rock outfit Rival Skies.
