G2 rerouted to Wisconsin during street construction

Metro announced yesterday that the G2 bus, which runs from Georgetown’s main gates to Dupont Circle and Howard, will not go past Wisconsin while the District Department of Transportation conducts road maintenance on O & P Streets near the University.

DDOT will continue the work it began this spring repaving the streets and replacing the historic streetcar tracks that line P Street. The O&P Streets Rehabilitation Project will also allow DC Water to replace aging water mains in the corridor. The project is not expected to be completed until Fall 2012.

The G2 is rerouted “until further notice” according to signs posted at the main gates. Metro officials were not able to say when G2 bus service would return to the University’s front gates.

  1. This would be the perfect time for neighbors to get rid of GUTS buses if they wanted to create a permanent Georgetown student ghetto behind the gates.

  2. Wasn’t this the case a few weeks ago too?

Also, Fall 2012 is a long ways away. Could we route it down by the library entrance for a year? Travel down N, and then prospect, before going up Wisconsin to complete its route.

  3. This bus hasn’t been working regularly for like 9 weeks. Delivers riders all the way to georgetown when they’re on the bus from dupont, but if its empty when it gets to Wisco it turns around. WMATA just decided last week it would publicize it inconsistent policy so people don’t count on it being there

  4. The thing is, the G2 came a’calling on the front gates last night at 11:00 p.m., and I’ve been catching it to go home around 5:30-6:00 the past two weeks. As best I can tell, it stops at Wisconsin only during active construction hours on the O&P Streets Project. When the workers shut down for the day (at 5, I reckon), the G2 resumes its full route. Not sure about early mornings, i.e. before they start construction work for the day.

  6. Signs posted on O say this change is effective through SUMMER 2012. You’ve got to be dry shaving me. So now the only way to get to the actual campus is to take a bus that takes more than 20 minutes to get to DuPont?
