On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at around 10:20 p.m., a student walking near the intersection of 36th and O Streets, NW, was robbed at gunpoint.

According to a public safety alert, a student was walking north on 36th Street when she found that an unidentified suspect was following her. When the student reached the intersection of 36th and O Streets, the suspect grabbed her purse. The student then ran to a courtyard on the 3600 block of O Street. The suspect pursued her, robbed her at gunpoint of both her purse and iPhone, and fled in an unknown direction. The student was not injured during the incident.

MPD responded to the scene but was unable to find the suspect after canvassing the area. The investigation is still underway.

The suspect is described as a black man with medium to dark complexion in his mid-twenties, approximately 5’9″, with shoulder-length dreadlock hair. He was wearing a large black T-shirt and possibly denim pants. The gun he used may have been a revolver.
