Campus Crime Watch: Eighteen crimes on campus in May

After eight months, Vox‘s campus crime watch is back. To date in May, DPS has reported 18 crimes on campus, compared to 31 crimes reported in the same period last year. There were five assaults, including two assaults on police officers. At least five students total were arrested and a non-student was caught carrying a concealed firearm on West Road.

5:05pm, Hariri Building—Theft: A student reported that his bike was stolen from outside of the listed location. Case pending investigation.
May 4, 2012
4:00am, Lauinger Library—Theft: A student reported that his unattended laptop was stolen from the listed location. Case pending investigation.
2:06am, 3621 O St.—Drug Violation: Drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the listed location by DPS officers who were investigating a suspicious odor. Referred to Student Conduct.

2:30pm, Healy Hall—Theft: A staff member reported the theft of her wallet from the listed location. Case pending investigation.

12:16am, LXR exterior railing—Theft: A student reported that his bike was stolen from the listed location. Case pending investigation.
12:30pm, Leavey Center—Theft: A staff member reported the theft of his unattended wallet from off of a table in a restaurant at the listed location. Case pending investigation.
May 11, 2012
8:00am, Reiss Science—Burglary: A faculty member reported that a laptop had been stolen from his office. There were no signs of forced entry. MPD was notified and is handling the investigation.
May 12, 2012
1:53am, 35th & Prospect St.—Simple Assault: A DPS officer made contact with a student who reported that another student had assaulted her. Contact was made with the assailant who appeared to be inebriated. Case closed: complainant declined to press charges.
2:04am, Kennedy Hall—Simple Assault: A DPS officer made contact with a student who reportedly assaulted another student. Case closed: complainant declined to press charges.
2:19am, Kennedy Hall—Alcohol Violation: A DPS officer made contact with the occupants of a room in the listed location who were underaged and found to be in possession of alcoholic beverages. Referred to Student Conduct.
1:50pm, Village C West exterior fire lane—Assault on a Police Officer: A student physically shoved a parking ticket into the vest of a DPS Sergeant after receiving the infraction for illegally parking his vehicle. Case closed with arrest.
3:01pm, Hariri Building—Theft: A student reported that his unattended Ipad was stolen from a restroom in the listed building. Case pending investigation.
May 13, 2012
2:45am, 3200 block of Prospect St.—Public Defecation: A student was arrested by an MPD officer after being observed by the officer defecating in public at the listed location. Disorderly Conduct: Another student (friend of the former student) was arrested for being disorderly loud and boisterous at the same location. Case closed with 2 arrests.
4:30am, 3335 Prospect St.—Theft: Residents of the listed location reported the theft of property from that location. MPD was notified and is handling the investigation.
May 15, 2012
4:25am, 33rd and Prospect St.—Simple Assault: A non-affiliate reported that he was assaulted by individuals whom he believed to be GU students in front of the listed location. MPD was notified and made an arrest.
May 16, 2012
11:34pm, Village C West—Assault on a Police Officer: A student used assaultive behavior towards DPS officers after contact was made with the student to check on his welfare. Case pending investigation.
May 19, 2012
3:57am, Prospect and Bank St.—Alcohol Violation: Two students were observed by an MPD unit in possession of open containers of alcohol at the listed location. Case closed with MPD arrests.
11:00pm, West Rd—Carrying a Concealed Weapon: DPS officers made contact with a non-affiliate, who was found to be carrying a concealed weapon. MPD responded and is handling the investigation. (Note: West Road is the street to the west of Reynolds Hall)
