Georgetown Confessions, a Facebook page created so students can post anonymous comments, seems to have become a forum for less than intelligent discussions on differences in socio-economic status and racial inequality and how those issues affect the college admissions process.
Beginning as a place where the people can finally confess what they’re really doing in the Lau study rooms late at night (or a place for the pathetic and lovesick), Georgetown Confessions has recently caused controversy over the issue of affirmative action.
One of the most popular comments, with 54 likes at the moment, hopes to fix the issues that divide us by referencing Mean Girls:
Apparently #927 thinks that the rainbow cake has already been served. Or he/she could be pointing out how absurd Georgetown students look on this page.
Most of the more popular comments, behind the plagiarized Reddit comment in likes, are almost all related to the Game of Thrones. Though they are not dirty secrets, they are quite entertaining.
Comment #351 had it right when quoting Oscar Wilde: ”Give a man a mask and he will show his true face.” Confessions has shown us Georgetown’s ugly side, rather than its juicy secrets, which is what students really want. Vox was hoping President Jack DeGioia would take the opportunity Georgetown Confessions presents to admit that he really is half dinosaur and that he is the one who steals all the ripe pears from Leo’s before students are able to enjoy them.
That the most popular comment by far (receiving 124 likes as of now) was actually plagiarized from Reddit further proves just how not juicy these “confessions” are. Luckily for us, there are a myriad of other confession-type pages (Hoyas Hookups, Georgetown Insults, Georgetown Crushes, Georgetown Love Declarations, and Georgetown Compliments) to look to for entertainment. Or perhaps we should just forget about all of them and go study to get our money’s worth out of our affirmative-action acceptances and scholarships.
