Remix Your Weekend: Watch people launch themselves into the Potomac, courtesy of Red Bull
Red Bull Flugtag 2013: It’s first time in the District, Red Bull will host its 13th home-made flying contraption competition this Saturday on the National Harbor. German for flight show, this flugtag has thirty-one teams slated to launched themselves and their craft off a 30-ft ramp before plunging into the Potomac. The flight will be judged on distance, creativity of craft and showmanship. Admission is $15. First launch is at 2pm.
National Book Festival: This Saturday and Sunday over 100 authors, poets and illustrators will be on the National Mall, inspiring America to read by reminding us what real books look like. Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, and Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale, will be in attendance. Hours: Saturday 10-5:30pm and Sunday 12-5:30pm.
H Street Festival: Between 4th and 14th streets, 50 artists and 150 food vendors will unite to showoff the H street community. The music, sprawled out onto 10 stages, will span the gamut of sounds – from rock and Caribbean to opera and rap. A tatoo and pie eating contest along with vodka tastings and a fitness expo will round out the experience. Hours: Saturday 12-7pm.
Green Festival: An two-day expo on how to live and die green friendly offers an organic beer and wine garden, yoga lessons, vegetarian cooking workshops, and recycled art. Hosted by Green America, the festival aims to inform the public on living sustainably as well as showcase green products. Ralph Nader will give a keynote address. Admission is $15 at the door and $10 online. Free admission to those who park their bike at the Cliff Bar bike valet. Location: Washington Convention Center. Hours: Saturday 10-6pm and Sunday 11-5pm.
