What Would Simone De Beauvoir Say: This week’s movie releases
For Valentine’s Day movie releases, Vox has chosen Simone de Beauvoir to offer her opinions on love and sex.
Colin Farrell and Lady Sibyl from Downton Abbey. Irish accents. True love. Also Russel Crowe. Vox is going to stop talking now, because she know you are already buying your ticket.
Simone: “No one is more arrogant toward women, more aggressive or scornful, than the man who is anxious about his virility.”
Well-off blonde-haired girl finds her summer squeeze in a pool boy at the country club. Daddy’s upset. Also pool boy has mysterious past. Will love prevail!? Yawn.
Simone: “To catch a husband is an art; to hold him is a job.”
Two guys who are roommates date two girls who are roommates. Some good times, some bad times. Everyone is happy at the end. Unoriginal? Yes. Entertaining? Perhaps.
Simone says: “I am too intelligent, too demanding, and too resourceful for anyone to be able to take charge of me entirely. No one knows me or loves me completely. I have only myself.”
