Remix Your Weekend: Awesome Con and the Silver Spring Easter egg hunt
Because of the holiday, there aren’t any events going on at Georgetown. For those of us who are still in the city, D.C. has lots to offer.
Breaking the bubble:
Friday Night Contra Dance: A lesson will precede the dance, so no excuses for those of you with two left feet. Head over to Glen Echo for some fun and southern dancing on Friday night. Glen Echo Park Spanish Ballroom is at 7300 MacArthur Blvd. in Glen Echo, MD. It’s $10 at the door.
Filmfest D.C.: For the 28th year in a row, the District will host Filmfest D.C. In case this is the final year of the festival (and there are some rumors flying around that it is), it seems like there will be plenty of worthwhile things to do. There will be over 70 films, including The Monk With a Camera and When Jews Were Funny. The event runs from April 17 to April 27, which is well past break. Each film is $12, and the screenings will be hosted in various cinemas around the city.
Awesome Con D.C.: All of you nerds who follows Ben Mazzara’s comic book column on Halftime, rejoice. It’s not quite Comic Con, but, only a short metro ride away, Awesome Con offers three days of comic books, science fiction, art, and music. The hours are Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, tickets are $30 for one day and $50 for two days, and it takes place in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
City-Wide Easter Egg Hunt in Silver Spring, MD: Though tickets to the egg hunt at the White House are limited, many cities throughout the metropolitan area are doing their own. Silver Spring is hosting a city-wide hunt on Saturday. This first-annual event will bring music and activities in addition to the eggs. The hunt is free.
