D.C. to host Marijuana Week
Georgetown offers many study breaks during finals, but this could be a new one: a field trip to… Marijuana Week?
The investor group The ArcView Group, based out of Oakland, California, has declared the week of April 30 to be “Marijuana Week” in the District. Investors are wasting no time in taking advantage of the legalization of marijuana, which passed barely a couple of months ago.
Even though it is still illegal to sell marijuana in DC, investors are very eager to explore opportunities in the marijuana business, although they may want to wait a couple of years before giving away all their money. (But hey, marijuana is known to hinder parts of the brain, so who knows what might happen.)
On April 30th and Friday, May 1st, more than 200 investors from around the world will gather at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, VA, where ironically weed is still illegal, to listen to pitches from enthusiastic start-ups looking to profit from this new world of weed.
Surprisingly, or maybe not so for avid fans of weed, Marijuana Week is not the only celebration occurring in our nation’s capital. The Marijuana Policy Project is celebrating its 20th anniversary at the Hyatt Regency on April 29 and the National Cannabis Industry Associations will hold a symposium and Congressional lobby days April 28 and 29.
It may not be legal yet to invest in or sell marijuana, but you certainly wouldn’t know that considering all the recent hype and events centered on this new opportunity. The possibilities are definitely out there.
And who knows, maybe these investors could look towards marijuana to help create a more functioning and cooperative government? Vox is pretty positive there are no limits to how high these investors are willing to go.
