FotoWeek DC (Nov. 15-22), a weeklong celebration of photography, is this week and centered around Georgetown. Galleries, embassies and museums are hosting events all over the city, but the headquarters (or “FotoWeek Central”) are at 3333 M Street.
Right next to Sweetgreen, in what used to be a ridiculous furniture store, a spacious, two-level white-walled storefront now houses a barrage of photography exhibits: giant contact sheet prints showing the process of photojournalism, Hurricane Katrina photos, hundreds of photography books meant for perusing, and more.
Across the street, another storefront houses even more exhibits. The best part is that it’s all free, as long as you wear the bright red button they give you when at the entrance.

Not long for this world
Seeing the success of Wisey’s creation of a new, cuter store further away from campus with pretty lighting and more seating options than the street curb, Philly Pizza opened its new Potomac Street location early this week. But unlike Wisey’s, the original Philly P isn’t going to be around for much longer. That’s probably a good thing, considering how rough the 34th street part of town is getting these days.
Right next to Georgetown Cupcake, the new location has an upstairs seating section, a grime-free sign outside, and an ordering area bigger than a walk-in closet. If you venture the two extra blocks there this weekend, let us know how it compares to its culinary trend-beginning prototype.

The unnamed MSB “New Building” is moving along more or less on schedule. Originally slated to open in Summer 2008, the biz school website now says early 2009; but maybe a six-to-eight month delay only seems tolerable when you’re used to waiting a few extra years.
Now that the façade is near completion, the south side of the building looks elegant, with its grey stone and high arches. The glass on the east side will offer views of the new science center and what will someday be a sweet sledding hill.
Then, suddenly and inexplicably on the north side of the building, the material changes to brick and the Leavey style. Yeah, it’s probably an effort to “integrate” the new and old campus styles, but that isn’t usually as simple as splitting the building in half, making one side in the old style and one side in the new.
It looks like they started with stone on the left side, ran out of money, and settled for the cheaper brick for the rest. And maybe I’ve seen The Dark Knight way too many times this summer, but I can’t help but think of Two-Face whenever I walk by it.

It’s been a yogurt summer in Northwest DC. Two ‘real fro-yo’ joints opened in Dupont, and Sweetgreen is still serving their Sweetflow. The overpriced fro-yo caught wallets in a cunning pincer formation, meeting both sweaty-DC-summer and cutesy-trend-related needs.
•Tangysweet, on 21st and P near Dupont Circle, looks like a Euro dance club, with big color-changing neon tube lights that curve into tables. It can feel like a club, too, because the place is frequently packed, especially late at night (TS stays open ’till 2 AM on the weekends). The ‘Original’ yogurt is slightly citrusy and the toppings are fresh, but the other flavors (green tea and pomegranate) are pretty bland.
•Mr Yogato, on the other hand, seems more like a kid’s playroom, with cute drawings and tiny chairs. If the Mr. Robato comes on the loudspeaker and you sing along, you get a 10% discount. They also lower the price for answering trivia questions, wearing a Mr. Yogato stamp on your head, or coming in with a kickball uniform on (how, exactly, they determine what a kickball uniform looks like is unclear).
