chuckDon’t think I can’t kill you with my thumb or my elbow?

Ed. Note: Welcome to the first edition of “The Boob Tube,” a weekly series in which Dan Newman—Voice staff writer and certified television addict—will be recommending the top three TV episodes of the week. Because nothing cures a hangover like some good Hulu.  WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Chuck “Chuck versus the Colonel”
In the middle of the episode, Chuck reveals his secret identity to his soon-to-be brother-in-law Devon and ends the talk by asking him, “I need you to be…awesome. Can you be awesome?” Whether or not Devon is able to be awesome, Chuck surely is. After a steady first half of the season, Chuck has quickly become the most enjoyable show on television week in and week out. This week’s episode far surpassed the entire season in terms of sheer awesome-ness, and we’re not even at the season (hopefully not series) finale, which airs on Monday.

The Office “Broke”
Sadly, the Michael Scott Paper Company is no longer with us. But it was great while it lasted. The split provided the greatest creative shot in the arm that the show has seen since the Stanford and Scranton branches merged. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I wasn’t cheering out loud for Michael as he avoided blowing the whole negotiation with by admitting the company was broke. And Jim subverting Charles’ dislike for him into bringing down Dwight, who didn’t help himself by discussing his apiarist, was another highlight. Now Charles is gone, Pam is a saleswoman, and Ryan is back full-time. With only a few episodes left it’s going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Better Off Ted “Goodbye, Mr. Chips”
Only a couple of episodes in, Better Off Ted—horrible title aside—has quickly become one of the funniest shows on television. The quick pacing, absurdist humor, and Portia de Rossi recall Arrested Development and a couple more seasons at this level of quality could put it in that pantheon. A highlight of every episode is the fake commercials for Veridian Dynamics, the corporation at the center of the show. Given its ratings, it doesn’t look like Better Off Ted is going to be with us much longer so it’s best to enjoy this show while it’s still on.
