Yeah, it’s one of those places.

According to Georgetown Metropolitan, the chain frozen yogurt shop Sweet Frog is slated to open a location on the northern stretch of Wisconsin Avenue, one block down from Safeway. The pink and green themed store has dozens of locations nationwide and joins the M Street location of Pinkberry as the second Georgetown-area “premium” fro-yo peddler.

Like at most other native-Suburban fro-yo shops, at Sweet Frog, you pay for your dessert by its weight, which promises to become pricey as your food-lust increases.

The chain has several locations in northern Virginia but none yet in D.C., though Alexandria residents seem to be satisfied. “Omg sweet frog is so good especially those berry poppers or what ever there called,” one reviewer wrote. There you have it. Once it’s here, get those berry poppers or whatever they’re called.

It’s official. The frozen yogurt craze is in full swing in Georgetown now that Pinkberry has arrived. Perhaps the trendiest and most popular frozen yogurt shop of the moment, Pinkberry has captured the hearts of many across the world with over 170 locations in 16 countries. As a loyal fan of the yogurt chain ourselves, Vox couldn’t wait to get our hands on one of those icy, fresh desserts now that they are in walking distance of campus.

The interior of the shop is similar to its other locations: tastefully decorated (pun intended) with contemporary and naturalistic elements such as sleek, modern shapes, a pebble floor, and a sky-blue and grassy-green color palette.

And the yogurt is almost better than Vox remembered it. The sweet yet slightly tangy Original flavor accompanied with ripe, juicy strawberries is perfectly refreshing, even on a frigid winter day. Pinkberry also offers a few other seasonal flavors, including a mouth-watering Mango, Blood Red Orange, Pomegranate, and even Peanut Butter. And with a variety of toppings ranging from fresh fruit to shaved chocolate to crunchy cereal to cheesecake bites, Pinkberry’s got it all. It’s no wonder that this place was bustling with customers when Vox got there.

But is this all too good to be true? Indeed it is. As much as the chilly treats are enjoyable, there is a major setback to this dessert: the steep price. A medium yogurt with toppings, which costs $4.95 at our hometown Pinkberry in California, is a whopping $6.95 here in Georgetown. We’re sorry, but the fact that a frozen yogurt could cost more than a lunch at Chipotle to be taken lightly.

Due to its high prices, Pinkberry may find it difficult to become a favorite hangout spot for college students. However, with the help of wealthy local residents and tourists desperate for a break from the sweltering DC summer climate, Pinkberry should have no trouble finding success here in Georgetown. With that said, who knows how Monday’s arrest of Pinkberry’s co-founder, Young Lee, will affect the thriving yogurt chain. Allegedly beating up a homeless man is not the greatest PR, but that’s a whole other story.

Like this, but with wheels and electro-funk beats

Sweetgreen, the health nut’s go-to salad and fro-yo shop created by three 2007 MSB alums, is debuting a new addition this Saturday: the Sweetflow Mobile. The van will come will cruise around D.C. carrying Sweetgreen’s signature “Sweetflow” yogurt.

A thoroughly modern take on the ice cream trucks of yore, the Sweetflow Mobile will be tweeting its travels and “will roam the nightly party circuit, as well as host its own impromptu dance parties in the streets of DC,” according to NBC Washington.

After tweeting about it for days (“stayed up all night mixing old-school Mister Softee jingle with a funky electro back beat. Can you say Mobile Dance Party”), Sweetgreen finally released the oddly infectious song of that will accompany the truck. If it doesn’t get you pumped for a night of drinking topped off with overpriced-but-delish yogurt, nothing will!

It’s been a yogurt summer in Northwest DC. Two ‘real fro-yo’ joints opened in Dupont, and Sweetgreen is still serving their Sweetflow. The overpriced fro-yo caught wallets in a cunning pincer formation, meeting both sweaty-DC-summer and cutesy-trend-related needs.

•Tangysweet, on 21st and P near Dupont Circle, looks like a Euro dance club, with big color-changing neon tube lights that curve into tables. It can feel like a club, too, because the place is frequently packed, especially late at night (TS stays open ’till 2 AM on the weekends). The ‘Original’ yogurt is slightly citrusy and the toppings are fresh, but the other flavors (green tea and pomegranate) are pretty bland.

•Mr Yogato, on the other hand, seems more like a kid’s playroom, with cute drawings and tiny chairs. If the Mr. Robato comes on the loudspeaker and you sing along, you get a 10% discount. They also lower the price for answering trivia questions, wearing a Mr. Yogato stamp on your head, or coming in with a kickball uniform on (how, exactly, they determine what a kickball uniform looks like is unclear).
