Documents released by the Metropolitan Police Department on Friday indicate that the police officer who died last December was responding to a suicide attempt, according to the Georgetown Patch. On December 16, U.S. Park Police officer Michael Boehm died on duty at the site of the jumper incident, but at the time the details of the jumper’s death were not revealed. At the time of the investigation, both lanes of traffic on Key Bridge were closed off during rush hour.

MPD terminated the investigation in February after a D.C. medical examiner determined that the man who jumped was in fact attempting to commit suicide. The document obtained by the Patch states that the man suffered “multiple blunt impact injuries.” The jumper was allegedly a 45-year-old resident of Washington D.C.

Kevin Kornreich of the D.C. Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency told Vox at the time that Boehm went into cardiac arrest at the scene of the incident and died in Georgetown University Hospital.

Sargent Boehm was a Park Police officer for 19 years.

The Patch reports that the information from MPD was obtained after they filed a Freedom of Information Act request.

Georgetown Patch recently asked local liquor stores what their highest selling brands were, and received mixed results across the board. Since Georgetown is comprised of students and other, more prosperous residents, differing tastes are represented. It’s pretty clear what kind of clientele these different stores have.

Unsurprisingly, Wagner’s and Towne Liquor listed Natural Light, Keystone Light, and Burnett’s making up the large part of their sales, with Four Loko and and Smirnoff Ice were also popular.

Potomac Wines and Spirits and Bacchus Wine Cellar list wine and champagne, like Ruinart and Blenheim Vineyards. Pappy Van Winkle 20 year Bourbon is popular at both locations, and Sam Adams is the only beer listed.

Dixie was not included in the survey. Maybe we should have a keg census this spring?

November reminds us of three things: Pumpkin pie, turkey, and mustaches. Luckily, we’re not the only ones.

A group of Georgetown Law students recently launched Georgetown Facial Challenge, a website that will monitor their participation in Movember, a month of mustache-growing and raising funds for prostate cancer research.

Steve Winstanley (LAW ’12), a member of the group, will even update his facial hair progress over at Georgetown Patch.

“I’m doing this for family. When cancer hits close to home, you strike back with a sexy mo,” Winstanley, a Vancouver native, wrote on his Movember profile.

According to their website, the group of law students raised $1,580 last year. This time around, they’ve set their sights on a more ambitious, $10,000 goal. They encourage all students—not just the mustache-inclined—to join their team and help raise money.
