Another week, and some more music. A face-melting mix from FLVR BNK as well as another Ke$ha remix (I know, I know, I post so much of her music—but what can I say, I’m in love). But don’t worry, I’ve still got some great new Hood Internet and an unknown DJ mash to compensate. So without further ado, let’s get into this.

FLVR BNK, a collab project between DJ Renaisance, DJ Madmonk, and DJ Real Juice (great names, right?), gave us a hard-hitting mash/mix of Eurythmics and LMFAO, the results of which rock my socks right off. I also just love the groups tag-line intro, “Flavor Bank made it bettah.” Classic.

School is back in full swing, which sucks. A lot. But, there are still a lot of things we can look forward to: seeing friends, shaking our booties on the dance floor, the coming of Spring, and of course, great Mash-ups.
In the great mash-up tradition of mixing rap artists with the Beatles (Danger Doom did this with Jay-Z a while ago on his seminal Grey Album, and he got in a lot of trouble with The Man as a consequence), producer Tom Caruana mashed up the Beatles with another one of my favorites: Wu-Tang.
He has wittily named the album “Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers,” and in my humble opinion, it rocks my socks. You can grab a listen and download the album at his website. Hopefully the Man won’t get a hold of Mr. Caruana the same way he did with Danger Mouse and DJ Lobsterdust. Until that day comes, go and give it a listen/a download!
I know that’s not a lot for this week, and for that I apologize. But it is a whole album of amazing mashed goodness which should more than satisfy your new music needs. Hopefully people will start releasing party-starting remixes and mashes soon, but in the interim, rock out to the amazingness of the Beatles mixed with the venerable Wu-Tang Clan.

This week’s songs are on opposite sides of the musical spectrum. The first, a new jam from Ke$ha’s recently dropped album, is a diva pop track about the joys of Boots and Boys, while the second is Citizen Cope’s new nostalgic melody about unforgettable love.

I feel like I’ve been posting a lot of Ke$ha lately, and I almost feel bad about it. It’s not that I am overly obsessed with her music (thought Tik Tok, overplayed now, is still a pretty sweet party tune). But I do feel like I should post her new, “Boots and Boys,” seeing as I’ve been ranting and raving about her in past posts.
“Boots and Boys” is probably what would be expected from Ke$ha on Animal, her full length album: a synth-filled, almost dark ballad about how the only thing Ke$ha cares about are—well, boots and boys. Shallow and weird, I know, but hey, this is the girl that brought us the lyric, “Brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack,” so, is it really that out of the norm for this LA transplant? You can hear other songs from her new album here.

It seems as though I got out of the District just in time, as about a foot of snow is pummeling those of you still packing into Lau. I’d be lying if part of me wasn’t jealous of seeing D.C. all snowed in, but at the same time, the California sun isn’t treating me too badly either. I’m starting to get festive with one of this week’s songs, while the other is just another great mash (I promise this time!) from The Hood Internet.
Seeing as the wondrous holiday known to us gentiles as Hanukkah is coming to an end today it seems only fitting to post this Hanukkah version of Outkast’s Hey Ya! by comedian song-writer Smooth-E. There’s not much else to it really, it’s a super funny song, catchy, quasi-danceable, and it’ll make Jews and gentiles alike giddy I’m sure.

The second song is the newest track from a mash-up band that never ceases to make my job easy. The Hood Internet has brought it to us again with this mash of Shwaze and Miike Snow. I first heard Miike Snow this summer, and was more than intrigued with their unique mellowed-out electro style. The two go together quite nicely under the leadership of The Hood’s graceful mixers, so enjoy.
That’s all for this week. If you’re still in DC, don’t worry about finals and go frolic in the fluffy snow. If you’re home, drink heavily and try not to go crazy as relatives start to flood your home.

It’s that time of the year again: Lau is spilling over with students, morning lattes become morning triple espressos, and all of us want to PTFO an go home more than anything. I hope I have a song today that will brighten some of your gloomy, final stricken days. It’s not a particularly new mash-up, but it’s a guy I have yet to post about on Remix Your Weekend.

Party Ben is San Francisco’s own radio DJ-turned-mash-up artist, most famous for his mash of Green Days “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” The mash for today is a wonderful blend of last year’s huge hit from T.I., “Live Your Life,” with Vampire Weekend’s “A-Punk.”
The result, as usual, is astonishingly perfect. Who knows how these guys think it up, but all the guitar riffs and even the quieter moments from the A-Punk instrumental match up seamlessly with T.I.’s chart topper. Truly, this was a mash made in some musical heaven.
Sadly, that’s all for this week. It’s been a tough week, and I hope I’ll have a mind meltingly amazing song for everyone next weekend. Until then, good luck on finals and don’t forget to have fun during these stress-filled weeks.

This year, while eating copious amounts of stuffing, turkey, and mashed potatoes, I gave thanks for my family, friends, and good remixes. In order to fully give thanks I’m happy to post a couple great tracks this week from The White Panda and Erol Alkan.

I’ve heard a couple of The White Panda’s mashes in the past, the TI/Passion Pit mash and more recently a Eminem/the Who mash, but I was never too impressed; none of them really made me shake my baby maker, if you catch my drift.
The Panda’s newest mash, a deadly combo of Wiz Khalifa, Umek and Beltek, and User absolutely blew me away. Somehow the Slovenian house beatz of Umek blend perfectly into the raps of both Wiz and Usher. Perfect for any rave party people may be hosting in the near future, Army of Yeah is definitely a new member to my top ten list.

The second track is a remake by the ever elusive Gonzales of a Erol Alkan and Boys Noize song, “Waves.” Gonzales takes the electrified, spacey style of Boys Noize and Erol Alkan and softens it down to a mellow, wonderful, in a word melodious track.
By no means is this a party song, or even a chilling-with-friends-song; rather it’s a sitting-alone-doing-homework or just-woke-up song. The piano progression, in my mind, is what a freight train would sound like if it could play the piano, an ever growing intensity with the rhythm of train tracks continues throughout the song, with breaks here and there at various stations along the route.
I hope everyone enjoys these tracks, as always, and I hope food comas haven’t taken claim to many lives this Thanksgiving. School starts back up in two days, don’t get too excited.

It seems as though after a week of beautiful weather, winter is finally upon us. Now, as much as this saddens even the most bubbly of individual, hopefully the tracks I’m posting this week will do some work on turning those proverbial frowns upside down.

I am more than a little excited about the first of this week’s two artists; DJ Pinto has rocked my world over the past week with his remixes and mash-ups of Dr. Dre, Ms. Cyrus, and Snoop Dog, to name a few. I stumbled upon the Iowa born DJ via Hypem and have since fallen deeply in love with his grace and mix skillz.
Between an amazingly blended mash of Paper Planes and Goin’ Down and the a superb mash of Drake and Brittney’s new single, 3, DJ Pinto very well may be the next big thing for mash-heads that are paying any sort of attention to the scene. Our boy also did a fabulous mash of Dr. Dre and Miley Cyrus.

This week is a week of looking back, a week of reflection, if you will, as both the featured songs actually in one way or another link back to previous posts of mine. So, let us go together on a little journey down memory lane.

Some (though not many I’m sure) may remember my original post of Ke$ha’s “Tick Tock”, it was a great mid-summer club drop from an LA girl with a whole lot of potential. Well now a Fred Falke has brought his remix skillz to her track, and it’s available on the interweb along with a pretty sweet music video.
Ke$ha is everything that makes a pop-diva these days: blonde, hawt mess, who seemingly doesn’t give a fuck. I originally expected this song to have caught on by now, but I’m still holding on to it, and still expect it to gain notoriety over the course of the year.

The second track, from the amazingly talented DJ duo The Hood Internet, mashes Duck Sauce and Consequence up like potatoes (corny I know, but I’m standing by the lame joke). The funky instrumental from “Anyway” could very well go with a large number of Hip Hop raps; however, team appropriately picked Consequence’s “Whatever U Want,” to fulfill all their lyrical needs. The obvious overlap of lyrics makes for a smooth mash, listenable, and, most importantly, danceable mash. Long live The Hood Internet.
Hope those tracks satiate some of your new song needs. And until next week keep it real, while keepin’ it safe.

The first of this week’s songs is a rather interesting track from Weezer’s recently dropped Raditude, I Can’t Stop Partying featuring Lil’ Wayne. I don’t even really know where to start with this track, it is nothing like anything Weezer has released to date.
The crunk rap lyrics (“Just follow the smoke, they’re bringing bottles of the Goose, and all the girls in the corner getting’ loose”), and club beatz coupled with Lil Wayne’s late addition create a catchy, danceable Weezer creation. And die-hard Weezer fans: inhale, exhale, and don’t worry; I’m pretty sure Rivers is just messing around with this album.

Oddly enough, I also stumbled upon a Weezer/Weezy mash-up album that made my ears smile even when mid-terms were getting me down. The track I decided to post from it, Mrs. Officer Turned and Left Me Here, is a tactfully mashed song.
Mash DJ Mole Star’s tag line for the album definitely rings true: “what Lil’ Wayne’s rock album should sound like.” The rest of the album can be downloaded here.
Editor’s Note: Sorry all for the delayed posting. Remix Your Weekend will be back to its regularly scheduled Saturday posting this weekend!

This weekend’s songs may not be mash-ups per se, but as per usual they involve the genre blending skillz, this time from two amazing MC’s: Cool Kids and Public Enemy.

The first track, a collaboration of Cool Kids and Hey Champ, will fulfill your mellow Indie Hop requirements. Though a mellow track, (We are) Champions definitely rox sox: a slow indie chorus and instrumental mixed with MF Doom-esque raps of Cool Kids at the very least makes heads bob, even if kids won’t break it down to this track.
