At approximately 2:30 a.m. yesterday, a Georgetown student confronted an unidentified male with a backpack inside his Henle Village residence. The man said he was looking for someone, and the student “escorted” him out of the apartment, according to a public safety alert. The student eventually learned that one of his roommates’ laptop was missing. The Department of Public Safety responded to the scene, and discovered no sign of forced entry.

The public safety alert describes the suspect as a six-foot black male, wearing a red baseball cap and a black jacket, and carrying a black backpack.

At some point between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. this evening, a residence in Kennedy Hall was burglarized, as jewelry, clothing and money were taken from the student’s room. The public safety alert describes the incident as “unforced”, suggesting that the door of the room was not locked.

No suspects or witnesses have been identified, and the Department of Public Safety and the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the incident.

At approximately midnight last night, a Georgetown student was assaulted by a taxi driver transporting the student back to campus. The driver also made inappropriate sexual comments to the student, according to a public safety alert about the incident.

The student reported the incident to the Department of Public Safety at 1:23 a.m. this morning. the Metropolitan Police Department and DPS are currently investigating the incident. The alert describes the taxi driver as a Middle Eastern or African male with short, curly black hair, who speaks with an accent.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. last night, a student living in an off-campus townhouse on the 1400 block of 36th Street (between O and P Streets) confronted a burglar in his house who was carrying a backpack. When the student asked to look in the bag, the burglar punched him in the face and fled.

Two laptops, a camera and a watch were taken during the incident. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and are investigating. The student sustained minor injuries during the confrontation. According to the public safety alert, the suspect is a roughly 5’9″ black male in his early thirties, wearing a white shirt, with a dark complexion and a medium build (weight estimated between 150-180 lbs.)

The rash of burglaries in the area (eight in two weeks in the second district) provoked DPS to include special instructions in the alert:

MPD and DPS encourage students living off campus to be extra cautious and practice good personal home security by keeping their doors and windows locked at all times. Promptly report any suspicious activity or circumstances to the appropriate police jurisdiction. Do not directly confront a burglar; instead, get to a safe place and call 9-1-1 immediately.

At 11:30 a.m. this morning, a student reported to the Department of Public Safety that their residence on the 3500 block of O Street had been burglarized the night before.

In the ensuing investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department found that two laptops were stolen and that the burglar may have entered through an open window.

At 7:27 a.m. today, a University staff member discovered that an administrative office suite in Darnall Hall had been burglarized. According to a public safety alert, a Department of Public Safety and Metropolitan Police Department investigation this morning revealed that a computer and a safe were taken from the office suite.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. today, a University employee reported to the Department of Public Safety that a laptop was stolen from a classroom in the White Gravenor Building.

According to the public safety alert, DPS investigators have deduced that forced entry was made to steal the laptop. The employee had left the laptop in its case in the locked classroom last Thursday at 1:15 p.m.. When she returned this morning, the burglary was discovered. There are no known suspects in the incident, which occurred at some point between Thursday afternoon and this morning.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. tonight, two Georgetown students were the victims of an armed robbery on N Street near 33rd Street in West Georgetown, according to a public safety alert. The two students were approached by two suspects, one of whom, a masked  5’6″ black male with a dark complexion and wearing dark clothing, pointed a handgun at the students and demanded money. The two suspects took the students’ wallets and cell phones from their pockets, then fled toward Wisconsin Avenue on foot.

The second suspect is described as a roughly 6’0″ black male wearing dark clothing.

The students, who were not injured, reported the armed robbery to the Department of Public Safety at 10:00 p.m. At that point, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to investigate. DPS requests that anyone who has information regarding this incident, or who noticed any suspects before or afterward, contact them immediately at (202) 687-4343.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. this morning, a student was sexually assaulted on 36th Street just north of N Street in West Georgetown, according to a public safety alert. The victim was physically injured during the incident. the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and is investigating the incident. MPD and Department of Public Safety personnel canvassed the area with negative results.

The suspect is described as a roughly 6′ white male between 18-22 years old, wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans.

In the alert, DPS also reminded the University community to walk in groups, call SafeRides, or utilize DPS’s safety escorts, which are available 24/7. DPS requests that anyone who has information regarding this incident, or who noticed any suspects before or after the incident, to contact them immediately at (202) 687-4343.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. this morning, a University employee discovered that an office suite in the Reiss Science Building had been burglarized overnight and two laptops had been removed, according to a public safety alert. the Department of Public Safety and the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene. The office had been secured yesterday evening at 6:30 p.m.
