Did he lose a bet? Get hacked? See the light? Vox doesn’t know, but whatever is happening over at Hoya Suxa, a Syracuse fan’s blog dedicated to hating on the Hoyas (and occasional Cuse basketball coverage), we’re seriously amused.

Following today’s Hoya win over the Orange in New York City, Hoya Suxa began tweeting and blogging in praise of Georgetown. “ALL YOUR HOYA SUXA’ NOW BELONG TO US!!!” he tweeted. “GEORGETOWN IS A FINE UNIVERSITY!” “PATRICK EWING FOR LIFE! HIS SWEAT CURES CANCER AND IS CURRENCY IN INDONESIA!

Then this showed up on the Hoya Suxa blog:

This isn’t the first time that a Georgetown-Syracuse matchup has resulted in internet fun. In the past, a Georgetown loss has resulted in an ode to Jim Boeheim Gerry MacNamara appearing on Casual Hoya. But this is a little extreme.

Hoya Suxa and Casual Hoya had an agreement before today’s game to allow the other to humiliate him if his team lost, but the terms of the agreement on Suxa’s end don’t say anything about giving up the rights to his blog or Twitter account:

“Should Georgetown University — an institution that believes in the nutritional value of urinal cakes — engage in patent treachery and bamboozle the Orange Empire of a victory, Hoya Suxa will “release a video chronicling the pain and emotion following a Syracuse loss to Georgetown.””

Vox guesses the bet expanded? We’ll let you know what happened when we figure it out, but we’re gonna take our sweet time. Reading tweets about sad Otto is more important to us right now.

The Hoyas took care of business against South Florida, just as well as they needed to. Well, technically all they needed to do was win by one, but if Georgetown couldn’t beat that Bulls squad by a significant margin, it would not bode well for tomorrow’s game.

But the Hoyas won by 20, in spite of Austin Freeman’s worst shooting performance of the season, just 25 minutes from Greg Monroe, and other assorted foul trouble. Of course, the Hoyas also won thanks to 29.1 percent shooting by USF. Either way, Georgetown played well enough to make you think they could beat Syracuse.

That’s a good thing, because Georgetown needs to beat Syracuse tomorrow. The Hoyas need to win, not for any kind of big picture reason like NCAA seeding, but because the Orange are their most hated rival, and it would be unbearable to lose to them three times in a season. It’s only happened once before: 2002-03, the season Carmelo Anthony led Syracuse to a national championship.

This year, the Orange once again look like they may be on their way to a national title. So that’s the precedent—lose tomorrow and subject America to an Orange national champion (and worse, let Syracuse come to D.C. to be honored at the White House).

After the jump, see what JTIII had to say about ‘Cuse today, and more Hoya news

“Don’t call it a comeback,” Tim Shine advises in his post-game coverage, where John Thompson III tells reporters that Georgetown doesn’t believe in moral victories.

You already hate Syracuse. And we already gave you five good reasons to hate this particular Syracuse squad.

But if for some reason you’re not already camped out in front of the Verizon Center, we’ve got a refresher on what you should be yelling at the players in Orange. Take Andy Rautins to task for defecting to Canada, remind Rick “Trash Man” Jackson that his nickname is also the only job his Syracuse education will qualify him for, and remember to avert your eyes when Arinze Onuaku shoots free throws.

The Hoyas will need everything you’ve got. Not to say every game against ‘Cuse isn’t a must-win, but normally it wouldn’t mean too much in the big picture if Georgetown lost to a top-5 team. Normally, however, the Hoyas wouldn’t have lost to Rutgers. Syracuse is very, very good, and they’re extra hungry coming off a loss to Louisville, so Georgetown will be in for a battle. But there’s no better Orange team to hate (and beat) than a good one.

You don’t need to be told why you should hate Syracuse. If you are a Georgetown fan, you already despise the Orange. With that in mind, We Are Georgetown will break from its usual format and dig deeper, providing you a hateful breakdown of the Syracuse starting five:

Brandon Triche

When star point guard Jonny Flynn left for the NBA after last season, few expected the Orange to actually improve. But so far this Syracuse team looks just as good as, if not better than, last year’s Sweet Sixteen squad.

Triche is hardly the same caliber of player as Flynn, but as a freshman he has proved capable of manning the point for a top-five team. He has shown the kind of precociousness that the Hoyas haven’t seen since—well, actually, I guess there was that Greg Monroe guy last year. But no freshman should be able to run an offense so easily in the rough-and-tumble Big East. Also, he sucks at Twitter.

Andy Rautins

If there’s one player on this current ‘Cuse squad that epitomizes Orange basketball, it’s Rautins. Like Gerry McNamara, or, going way back, his dad, Leo Rautins, the guard is a scrappy, versatile player and a lights-out shooter.

Also like them, he seems to stick around forever—the 23-year-old enrolled at Syracuse in 2005. But while it’s easy enough to be infuriated whenever Rautins pulls up for a three, that’s hardly the main reason to hate him. Despite being born in Jamesville, New York, Rautins plays for the Canadian national basketball team. Andy Rautins is a traitor.

While Georgetown is currently tackling the issue of gender neutral bathrooms, Syracuse and Princeton are taking it a step further by beginning to offer gender-neutral housing.

Both universities decided that next fall, they will allow students to room with someone of the opposite sex.  The policies were changed with LGBT students in mind, but will also help other students who want to live with their friends of different genders.

Syracuse will offer seventy-four two-bedroom suites for students that don’t feel comfortable entering the housing lottery with roommates of the same gender. They will also be giving training for potential mixed gender pairings for conflicts that are nonexistent with same gender housing.

Princeton will be allowing Spelman Hall, a residence hall featuring apartment-style suites, to offer gender-neutral housing.

Georgetown—Syracuse rivalry

Last week, ESPN columnist Pat Forde wrote a round-up of the top college basketball rivalries for the 2009-10 season. So how did the legendary Georgetown—Syracuse rivalry fare?

We certainly didn’t get top honors—those went to Kentucky—Louisville, followed by Michigan State—Purdue and Kentucky—Tennessee. Not only did we not make the top 10, we didn’t even get one of the eight honorable mentions! Oddly enough, the only Big East “rivalry” that made the top five was Pitt—Villanova.

Mike Walters from the Syracuse Post-Standard noticed the flagrant Georgetown—Syracuse omission and took umbrage:

Hey, it’s OK if Pat doesn’t know that Syracuse-Georgetown isn’t one of the top five rivalries in college basketball. I know of 31,841 people who do. Those would be the fans that jammed the Carrier Dome last winter; the largest on-campus crowd in the NCAA last season.

Finally something both Georgetown and Syracuse fans can agree on!

At the end of the Saturday Georgetown-Syracuse basketball game, fans in the Syracuse student section threw beers cups and water bottles at the group of Georgetown students seated nearby. Syracuse’s senior associate athletic director Pat Campbell said the Carrier Dome, where the game was held, had assigned security to the area earlier in the game, according to Syracuse.com:

“We were all pretty surprised when we saw all those gray shirts in the student section,” Campbell said. “They never should have been there. The problem is we have a group sales department within the box office. We made a sale and didn’t realize it was to a Georgetown group up in that area.

“When we saw them up there we assigned a security presence,” Campbell said.

Even the acerbic Hoya Suxa was embarrassed, writing, “I have no idea what would cause someone to throw things at another individual, but I know that the outcome of a basketball game is not the forum.”

As if the loss weren’t already enough!

Roy Hibbert and Jonathan Wallace had 15 points each in the Hoya’s win tonight at the Verizon Center. Sophomore guard Jeremiah Rivers also deserves credit for his stellar defensive play in the second half to save the Hoyas from their second Big East loss.
