As you already know, Lupe Fiasco will perform outside of McDonough Gymnasium on October 30 at 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are already on sale online through Ticket Alternative, but will also be sold in Red Square, Vital Vittles, and Hoya Snaxa beginning this Tuesday. With a GOCard, the concert will cost $20 in advance, $25 at the door. (Everyone else will have to pay $25 in advance, $30 at the door.)
According to Andrew Malzberg, chairman of the Senior Class Committee, ticket prices were calculated by subtracting the sponsorship funds from the total cost, then dividing that number by the amount of expected sales. The SCC expects 4,000 tickets to be sold.
“We have no interest in making any profit off this event,” Malzberg wrote in an email.
The SCC will co-sponsor the event with the Georgetown Program Board, with funding from What’s After Dark and the Corp Philanthropy Committee. Although Malzberg declined to reveal how much the SCC will spend, last week the Hoya reported that the Corp contributed $2000 for the event.
Bill Ward, a senior in the College who was recently profiled by the Voice, and Honor by August, a rock group comprised of Georgetown alumni, will perform the concert’s opening acts. The event will open at 8:30 p.m.

In an effort to reach out to a greater portion of the Georgetown community, the Welcome Week committee jumped onto the social network bandwagon.
Tweeting since June 17, the committee has used the site to promote their meetings—which usually have free cookies!—and to gain input from their followers about proposed events.
In an e-mail conversation with Vox, Welcome Week co-chairs Annie Cruickshank (COL ’11), Danny Fortin (SFS ’12), and Anna Sannes (COL ’11) explained their decision to turn to Twitter. They want to “establish Welcome Week as its own entity on campus, not just a follow-up to NSO or a random mash-up of events following the Welcome Back Jack barbecue.”
Through Twitter, the committee plans to update students on the planning process, while soliciting suggestions about Welcome Week events.

Some people have been acting like they’re not excited about seeing Coolio for free tonight on Harbin Field. Even the What’s After Dark e-mail is taking hospitality cues from Lee Bollinger: “Bear witness to the proud living legacy of one of the greatest visionaries of our time: COOLIO. That’s right. That wasn’t a misprint. It’s not a hoax.”
For those of you who think Coolio’s a has-been, here’s how Coolio’s been keeping busy since “Gangsta’s Paradise” (from Wikipedia, naturally):
- Coolio has been on Celebrity Fear Factor and made it to the third round
- Coolio played a “space age stoner” in Dracula 3000, a made-for-tv movie that has only negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
- He was in a Croatian movie!
- The last three albums he’s released have all gone gold.
Still, staying on the field after “Gangsta’s Paradise” is socially impermissible.
