Concert Calendar: I’m single, bilingual
This week’s concert calendar has an international flavor with music from France, Canada, and England.
Vancouver based No Kids will be appearing at the Black Cat at 9:00. Fans of the electronic music in Flight of the Concords will likely enjoy No Kids. Mirah will be opening, and the show is a bargain at $15.
Wilco fans think of the Grammy nominated Mermaid Avenue albums when they hear the name Billy Bragg, but the British singer-songwriter has had a very successful career on his own. Tickets to his Monday show at the 9:30 Club are a bit pricey at $35, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Israeli/French songwriter Yael Naim will be at the Sixth and I Synagogue in Chinatown at 8:00. She was recently featured in an ad for Apple’s Macbook Air, and has seen a growing fan base in the US as a result. You won’t want to miss her charming music featuring lyrics in French and English.
Black Gold described themselves as “the taste of blinding white, the numbness on your lips and throat … [and] the corrosion you’ve swallowed with comforting warmth tempered by unease.” Sounds hardcore, but in reality their sound is mainstream alternative rock. They’ll be at the Black Cat with Jaguar Love and Japanese new wave band Polysics at 9:00.
