Shot of Charity partners with Dean & Deluca in Manhattan

Shot of Charity, a nonprofit group founded by three Georgetown grad students, has ventured outside of the District to bring its philanthropic activities to New York City. Watch out, Blair Waldorf!

Starting June 21st, customers at the Dean & DeLuca located at 560 Broadway will find making charitable donations far easier—and tastier—than in the past.

A 25¢ “shot” or 50¢ “double shot” may be added to any purchase. No actual shots are added, so you don’t need to buy coffee to donate. And 100% of this money goes to a featured charity. (But you probably know that already, since Shot of Charity partnered up with the Corp three years ago.)

Shot of Charity’s first supported charity under the new partnership is Apne Aap, which works to benefit women and children of red-light districts in India. One of the founders, Elias Schulze (MSFS ’08), told Gourmet Retailer, “We choose to focus on smaller organizations to maximize the impact of customer donations.”

So, Vox has a message for those East Coast students out there who plan to spend time in the city this summer: think twice before you step into Starbucks. There may be one on every corner, but what’s trendier: a distinctive bottle of Ethos water that you won’t recycle anyway, or a sweet and trendy orange sleeve around your coffee cup?
