Athletic Dept. announces personnel changes

Jack Jr. in his game jerseyAlong with the new academic year comes the yearly helping of new athletic seasons. To manage the many varsity programs at the Hilltop, the Athletics Department is essential. For the coming year, there have been many promotions of current personnel as well as some additions to the team.

Mike “Mex” Carey is now the head of the Sports Information Department and the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. Barbara Barnes is now the Director of Sports Information, managing the website. Diana Pulupa has moved to the position of Brand Manager/Associate Sports Information Director.

Pete Kirschner has been given a promotion and is now the Senior Director of Marketing. Andrew Harrington is the new Director of Athletic Facilities while Jason Poppe has been added to the staff as the Assistant Director of Events & Operations.

Shawn Hendi has become the new Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health & Wellness. Dr. Mike Lorenzen, Director of Student Athlete Leadership & Development will become part of the senior leadership team and will oversee field hockey and women’s lacrosse. The administrative oversight for all track & field and cross country programs will be managed by Sharon Brummell, Associate Athletics Director/Senior Women’s Administrator.

With the array of successful sports programs at Georgetown, it is necessary to have a strong team managing all of the administrative responsibilities. Behind the scenes, there are many people working hard so that all these programs can compete and entertain the Georgetown community. Here’s a picture of JJ in his game jersey for everybody who allows us to enjoy our Saturday mornings at the Phonebooth.
