Bulldog Tavern set to open this weekend

On Friday, Nov. 7, Georgetown’s Bulldog Tavern will hold its grand opening inside the Healey Family Student Center. The pub, a project that has been in the works for three to four years, since GUSA signed for the project’s commencement, will hold a soft opening tonight, tomorrow night, and Thursday night starting at 5 p.m.

Joelle Wiese, associate vice president of Auxiliary Business Services, said she thinks that students will enjoy Bulldog Tavern.

“There has been input from students on every part of the Tavern: design, furniture, décor, food menu, beer selection, hours of operation, pricing, vendor selection, name and logo,” Wiese said in an interview with Vox. Wiese also noted that there are already over 18 students on staff for the full-service bar and restaurant.

Bulldog Tavern will offer an outdoor deck overlooking the Potomac as well as a pick-up window for students that are looking to grab a quick bite to eat. Further, the Tavern will feature a “catering menu, flights of local craft beers, wines from area vineyards, TVs to cheer on the Hoyas, and even some live music by Hoyas,” according to Wiese.

IMG_0322The menu, catered by Bon Appétit (as opposed to Leo’s’ Aramark) as the Tavern’s food vendor, will include freshly made items including “a tapenade flatbread, thick pub burgers, awesome wings, blackened chicken quesadilla, sliders, a selection of salads, multiple pub sandwiches, espresso drinks, house made cracker jacks, Nutella shakes and more,” according to Wiese.

The menu for the soft opening will be reduced and the current menu for the full opening is subject to change.

The pub will be open during the academic school year seven days a week starting at 11 a.m. and closing at 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and closing at 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Bulldog Tavern will be 21+ only on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 10 p.m.

As for Bulldog Tavern’s grand opening on Friday evening Wiese explained there would be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and some fun but didn’t want to give away the entire grand opening plan.
